Dog Vaccination
We are delighted to inform you that we have the opportunity to offer significant improvements in the preventative healthcare and well being of your dog.
Until recently, the canine vaccines available to us dated back to the Parvovirus epidemic of the late 1970's. In recent years there have been considerable changes in disease patterns as well as developments in science and vaccine technology. Now we are able to recommend the UK's first broad spectrum canine vaccine of the 21st Century, developed by Fort Dodge.
As well as offering increased efficacy and clinical safety over the 'older' vaccines, this modern presentation enables us to protect your pet against disease caused by Coronavirus infections. This virus causes diarrhoea and other upsets of the digestive system. Coronavirus can also leave your dog more susceptible to infections such as parvovirus.
It also confers other advantages that we believe your dog should benefit from.
- Like most canine vaccines, it protects against Leptospirosis. Uniquely, this element of the vaccine is produced using a new technology that results in a cleaner and we believe, better tolerated vaccine.
- Side effects following vaccination are very rare, however Fort Dodge have employed new manufacturing techniques to improve the quality of this new vaccine still further.
- It is a very effective vaccine and can be administered to pups as young as six weeks of age. A second dose at 10 weeks of age completes the primary course ensuring your pet is protected as soon as possible in its most vulnerable stage of life.
Our belief is that this new vaccine represents a significant step forward and we will be recommending its routine use for the majority of dogs visiting the practice. Please ask us for advice.
Your dog will need Kennel Cough vaccine before entering a boarding kennel, and also may be best done before going to training classes.
